Foreign Secretary’s Statement on the NPT Review Conference

William Hague, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, yesterday gave a detailed statement to the House of Commons regarding the outcome of the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference of 2010.

He stressed that the UK was “facing the risk of a new age of nuclear insecurity”, but also said that he was “delighted […] that the conference successfully reached agreement to revitalise the treaty as the cornerstone of global efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, to promote the safe and secure use of civil nuclear energy and to pursue the goal of a world without nuclear weapons.”
