Ambassador Jo Adamson, UK Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament, made a statement on the Fissile Material Cut Off Treaty in Geneva on 31st May 2012.
In the statement, Ambassador Adamson confirmed the UK’s preference of keeping the negotiation of a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty in the Conference on Disarmament.
The statement also outlines the UK policy of including all nuclear armed states in a future treaty:
An FMCT, which should verifiably ban the future production of fissile material for use in nuclear weapons and other explosive devices, must include all nuclear players if it is to fulfil the ambition of the international community that it will strengthen the global disarmament and non-proliferation framework in a meaningful way.
